Lady Gaga: I Was Taking Lithium While Filming A Star Is Born

According to CinemaDrame News Agency, Lady Gaga revealed in a new interview with Rolling Stone that she was taking lithium and experiencing psychosis during the filming of A Star Is Born.

The Grammy-winning singer explains that after finishing the film, she began the world tour for her album Joanne, and during that time she experienced a psychotic episode. She canceled 10 shows from the tour after her sister told her: “I don’t recognize my sister anymore.”

Gaga came under medical supervision, but she says she was “smoking marijuana all day” and drinking “several bottles of wine.” During that period, she met her current fiancé Michael Polansky, who said: “I’d never seen someone so talented and so gifted feel so powerless.” Gaga says Polansky helped her see that her life was “precious.”

Gaga had previously told The Hollywood Reporter that to play her role in House of Gucci, she revisited painful memories from her past, including being sexually assaulted at age 19, and that she would often vomit after experiencing a mix of “anxiety, exhaustion, trauma, fatigue, commitment, and love.” She said: “I would wake up, throw up, go to set, and throw up again. Ridley [Scott] said, ‘I don’t want you to torture yourself.’ I said, ‘I already have. I’ve gone through these things anyway. Maybe it’ll transfer to you as well.’ He said, ‘Well, that’s enough, and don’t do this to yourself anymore.’”
